We are a family of creators who use writing as outlets and as a tool to keep our bond strong. My husband is a long term inmate who loves to write, my daughter an inspiring illustrator, and I'm the initator/manager. We do writing projects together and write stories both for and with each other's collaborations. Our hope is to create a series of comic books the way we do projects together to keep our bond strong. My husband have several novellas in progress . I also am in the process of writing a loosely based steampunk adventure based on our "alter egos". My daughter is creating her own world where she can draw stories out of for her role plays. None of These may ever be published but I hope it remains a source of entertainment for our family in the future. My family's influences run the spectrum of most genres which makes our individual and group collaborations unique. Together, we are all crazy about books from authors like Christopher Moore and Tim Dorsey. My husband is a huge fan of fantasy. His favorite authors include Piers Anthony and Mercedes Lackey. He is also a game master for first edition (he stresses that) dungeon and dragons or he was before he went to prison. He falls back on a lot of his gaming experience when writing characters for his stories and basically taught our daughter those skills that she applies to drawing characters: she can't just "draw" a being. My daughter, more an artist, than a reader, is often reading creepy pastas or role playing online. Her favorite is Vincent De Cava. As for me, I like stories about real people, stories set in a specific time or circumstance in history that not much is known about. Books that introduce a new perspective in the way I look at a situation. I also enjoy a good fantasy book once in awhile and anything that makes me laugh. My influences are Jean Auel, Michael and Kathleen ONeal Gear, Michelle Moran, Amy Tan, Paul Meier, Joanne Harris, Alice Hoffman, Anchee Min, Alan Brennert, Rise Wilder Lane, Chitra Banerjee Divaruni, Rick Riordan, Neil Gaiman, and Gail Tsukiyama.
