I have self published my book "Designing on the Bias" for knitters, crocheters and machine knitters.
It is a 94 - page tutorial for beginners and advanced knitters,crocheters and machine knitters.
I started knitting and crocheting as a child and later graduated to machine knitting.
I have always been fascinated by the bias knits but never found any information on the ins and outs of it so deciced to master the technique which is a mathamatical process for the shaping of bias knits.
As a result I came up with this idea for my book which is very informative with lot's of diagrams and photos.

Anyone interested in fashion can benefit from learning how to work on the bias, that is, with rows forming diagonal lines across the fabric. Teresa Allum’s book is a very well-organized and thorough study of this method. Among techniques covered are squares and triangles, adding length on the bias, and double bias, which creates a V at the center of the work. Using the double bias method, she constructs a sweater, showing how shaping is done at armholes, shoulders and neck. Detailed instructions are given for several different necklines. There are samples with and without sleeves, and sleeve shaping is covered as well. Lastly, a skirt is created on the double bias Every lesson has separate instructions for knitting, crochet and machine knitting. The book uses single crochet throughout, as Allum is showing the basic principals of this construction. My only tiny quibble is that in the crochet sections, she does shaping on every other row, as knitters must, rather than increasing or decreasing on every row, as is natural to crochet. But perhaps I am being ungrateful, as this adjustment would probably have added many hours to the author’s toil. I’ve done an item or two on the bias, and wish I’d had this book to help me through the math and concepts. Now I can’t wait to study up and do several more. Thanks Teresa for this labor of love!
