My experience as an actor for the past 40 years has allowed me to perform, read, and experience wonderful literary giants from Shakespeare, Kidd, Odets, Shaw, O'Neill, Moliere, Tennessee Williams, and many others. They have allowed me to see myself and others through their eyes. How people of different cultures and life experiences live, breathe, and love. My poetry is not a gift, but momentary and fleeting. Much like the hoary frost of early Spring. In those temporary interludes comes words from my soul for one reason only...I have a muse. And these Muses come with differing titles and relationships. Since childhood, I have always enjoyed an active imagination in creating worlds that I would dare explore and live in. My family had little money so playing outdoors and/or using my imagination became the trips and vacations to foreign lands, tropical islands others travelled to. My mind and imagination became my travel agent.
Shakespeare is my favorite poet, but other influences such as Edgar A. Guest, Emily Dickenson, Walt Whitman, Edgar Allen Poe, T.S. Elliot, and e.e. cummings provide for me insights and vision that are refreshing and stimulating.
My father Frank D. Macy was a graphic artist all of his long, hard lived life. From his work I learned calligraphy and an appreciation of all things handmade and gifts from the heart. He taught me consistency and composition in line and form. He taught me to appreciate creativity and artforms in all their varieties and an artist's heart and soul. Space does not allow all that this great, witty, sensitive, and insightful man has shown me. I use the word 'shown' because the lives we all live are the greatest teachers and mentors. Now on the brink of death, my father has great meaning to me and as I may lose him soon, my heart is naturally drawn to him. (May 29, 2009 my Dad passed away, just four days passed his 74th birthday.)
I also enjoyed baseball from the time I was 8 years old and played in city and school leagues til I was almost 19. Sports played a important role in my life in teaching me sportsmanship, to work as a team, that no one person is a star. To be disciplined and dedicated are virtuous attributes that can be applied to any other field of endeavor throughout ones life.
Currently, I still will perform on stage and do film projects that come to Utah.
