Once upon a time in March of 2008, Kristie LeVangie decided to put it all out there, and she published her own first complete collection of poetry titled Libidacoria: In a Plain Brown Wrapper.
Sure, she tried to go the route of traditional publishers, but it seemed her potty mouth would be to her detriment. Instead of bending to The Man with his artistic infringement, she self-published and shouted from the rooftops of her 1st amendment freedom.
To market her lovely collection of smut, she ventured into the online Wild West with the Shades of K—: Chronicles of Libidacoria podcast. It was a lovely world where there were very few rules, and boy, did she exercise her freedom. The podcast format showcased audio readings of the poetry in her book along with accompanying essays (some diary, some social commentary, some comedy), and set it all to music by independent and local musicians. The podcast quickly gained popularity, was showcased on Playboy Radio’s Spice Channel, and grew to have audiences in over 59 countries around the world.
With over 100 episodes under her belt, she was ready to try something new.
So in March of 2009, she took a foray into the talk show realm withLibidacoria: The Late Night Talk Show. A laid-back, sarcastic, but educational program, Kristie and her crew of misfits— examined modern sexuality on a variety of topics from tame to outrageous and from educational to utterly entertaining. During their 3 years of broadcasting, they welcomed guests from religious sex toy designers to pioneering social scientists to YouTube sensations and beyond.
This show ended in April of 2012, when tragedy struck.
She lost love, friendship, artistic direction and purpose, so she settled down to concentrate on family.
In doing so, Kristie released “On the Floor”, a dance/rap song written in collaboration with Talianna L., her daughter and talented teen singer/songwriter in her own rite.
And while not in the studio behind the mic, she got up off her ass and got up on stage behind the mic.
She had a brief stint where she ventured into Burlesque and did live performances integrating her poetry into popular songs.
She has performed at venues such as the Erotic Poetry and Music Festival in Detroit, the Fierce! Queer International Burlesque Showcase, the First Annual Ohio Burlesque Festival, the 2012 SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) Day Dayton, the RAW Natural Born Artists Cincinnati’s Mixology July 2012 event, and at several Passion & Poetry local art events.
But she ultimately decided she was a writer at heart, and she yearned to return to what she loved.
In March, she gave birth to her second volume of self-published poetry, and a prequel to Libidacoria: In a Plain Brown Wrapper, entitled 4play. Another collection of erotic poetry, this book showcased an elevated style and lyrical evolution.
She has performed at venues such as the Erotic Poetry and Music Festival in Detroit, the Fierce! Queer International Burlesque Showcase, the First Annual Ohio Burlesque Festival, the 2012 SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) Day Dayton, the RAW Natural Born Artists Cincinnati’s Mixology July 2012 event, and at several Passion & Poetry local art events.
Kristie is currently working on her second and third volumes of poetry that will be published in a single book. When complete, this 4-volume collection will have been created to mimic the life cycle of a relationship. L:IaPBW is that lustful infatuation phase of a newly formed relationship. The second volume will be a collection of love poems without the frills and niceties of traditional love poetry while the third volume will have an angry tone reflecting on the break-up of a relationship. The collection comes to a head with the publication of volume 4-- an examination of self so essential to "putting yourself back out there" again.
