Personally I would like to thank my professor(don't know her last name) for making me realize my true talent which is poetry.One day,she told the whole class to write a poem about anything and that is where it all started.She teaches creative writing class in college.As a kid I always like to read poetry(Example,Cat in the Hat).Then as a teenager I started to read other poets work like Sylvia Palth,Maya Angelou,Langston Hughes,etc.As I grew older,I read poetry that doesn't always rhyme.I realize that not all poems have to rhyme.Poetry to me is like doing yoga.Instead of stretching my body,I am stretching my thoughts. I am bless to be a part of the AuthorsDen with such wonderful and talented people who enjoy writing poetry.Right now I am taking my poetry skills to the next level in terms of being an aspiring songwriter where I can turn poetry into beautiful songs where people are affected by it in a positive way. In the past,I've attended open mics for poetry around the city.The first open mic that I went was at a cafe last Augest.I heard about it. on 98.7 Kiss FM.I had the pleasure of showcasing my talent in front of radio host Shalia and singer Chrisette Michelle.I recently went to another open mic last month.I am planning on going to more open mics in the near future.
