Information
I've been creating characters in my head and writing short stories since I was a little girl, but it was my love of reading--and the encouragement from my husband--that made me decide to put finger to keyboard and try my hand at writing full length novels.
My first novel was written in 2002 on the computer in my kitchen. I'd often take advantage of the peace and quiet offered by the late night and early morning hours as my husband and children slept. I completed the manuscript in two months, then spent the next two years learning everything I could about the writing / publishing world.
The characters I write about are down to Earth; characters that people like you and I can identify with. The women aren't all a perfect size 2, and the men are rough, wild, blue collar bad boys who work with their hands. I love having the ability to create characters. I become very attached to all of them. I've been writing about the McCassey's since 2005...so all those wild men are now practically members of my family!
Proud of where I come from, all my novels take place in Maryland, and are full of local references!
I also write a tell-it-like-it-is relationship advice column for The Baltimore Examiner online. It's like Dear Abby, only, Dear Lauren.
