Alan Brenham is my pen name. My birth name is Alan Behr and I was born in upstate New York, in a small Catskill Mountains town called Delhi.
After graduating from college, I spent 10 years working in law enforcement then obtained my law degree. I worked as a prosecutor and later as a criminal defense attorney.
I spent a few years living in Berlin, Germany until returning to the US.
Background
Information
I began writing crime fiction, using my experiences as a law enforcement officer, a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney over the past forty-two years. As a defense attorney, using the adage that there are two sides to every story, I put a defense spin on the facts and on my summation to the jury. Taking this story-telling experience to another level, I began writing crime fiction novels.
My stories feature dual protagonists - male and female - who readers can relate to. My stories often concentrate on portraying investigators as everyday people with flaws, failings, and family problems and how they struggle to overcome them. The plot of my books tend to focus on major crime trends such as child kidnapping, human trafficking, and violent crimes based on emotional and/or psychological influences.
Major influencers for my writing are Michael Connelly and his Harry Bosch novels, John Sandford and his Lucas Davenport novels, J.A. Jance and her J.P. Beaumont novels, and Michael McGarrity's Kevin Kearney books.
Accomplishments
Price of Justice won best in police/crime fiction from the Texas Association of Authors; was a finalist in Thrillers at the Beverly Hills Book Awards; and, received a few Honorable Mentions from various other book festivals.
Received Law Enforcement Officer of the Quarter Award;
Won Gold Medal in US Army International Pistol Competition in Germany.
Certified as a Master Peace Officer and Special Investigator by State of Texas;
Licensed and in good standing as an attorney with the State Bar of Texas.
