Background Information

Kitty Morse was born in Casablanca, Morocco, of a French mother and British father. She immigrated to the United States at the age of seventeen. While studying for her Master's Degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Kitty catered Moroccan diffas, or banquets, and went on to teach the intricacies of Moroccan cuisine in cooking schools and stores nationwide. From 1983 until 2006, Kitty originated gastronomic tours to Morocco. In June 2002, she conducted a Culinary Concert on Moroccan culture and cuisine hosted by Julia Child, as a benefit for the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP). She is the author of:  Mint Tea and Minarets: A Banquet of Moroccan Memories (La Caravane, 2012) Finalist in the 2012 San Diego Book Awards  A Biblical Feast: Ancient Mediterranean Flavors for Today’s Table (La Caravane, 2009). Reprint of A Biblical Feast: Food from the Holy Land for Today. Ten Speed Press, 1998. Translated into Czech, Spring 2000. Polish, October 2001.   Cooking at the Kasbah: Recipes from my Moroccan Kitchen.  (Chronicle Books, 1999) Now in its 9th printing.  "As a writer and a public speaker I am often asked: “How do you get ideas?” Ideas just seem to float in and out of my head all the time! I have acted on a few, and have released many more back into the universe. Yet, as a cookbook writer with 9 books under my belt, I harbored a secret desire to write a memoir (with food, bien sûr) centered around Dar Zitoun, the riad (Moorish mansion) that my father willed my brothers and me, 50 miles  south of my native Casablanca. But how? I was “just” a cookbook writer! . . . So I went back to school . . . "  Normal 0 0 1 84 481 4 1 590 11.1282 0 0 0
