I started out writing genealogy books, under my married name.  I've always loved history and family is very important to me.   I just kept reading romance novels all the time. Then I'd switch to humor. Then I'd read about Native American culture and heritage. But, one thing was missing.  I never knew either of my grandfathers. My mother knew nothing about her family.  Her father died when she was young.  His father, my great grandfather died when my grandfather was only 6 months old.  My paternal grandfather was nine when his father died. I had no stories or knowledge passed down from either grandfather. In high school, I did a research paper on Native Americans from their point of view  I leaned a lot.  In college, I did another research paper and learned a lot more.  But, I'd rather tell a story then write a report. My cousin came to me years ago and asked me to find some old reel to reel tapes that her Sioux Grandmother had made.  Her Grandmother had spent years recording her families stories in the 40's and 50's.  Stories that had been passed down for generations.  Stories that were cherished by the Sioux. They were all lost.  No one could find them. At the same time, I found an article about Native American orphanages.  Children were torn from their homes, given new names.  Their language was taken from them along with their religion.  The youngest of these children would never remember who they were, what tribe they were from or the names of their parents.   At 18, these children were put out, to survive in the world.  I wondered, what would this do to a person?   How would that effect a Native American?  How would they "find the Indian" in them, if they were taught "Kill the Indian, save the man?" This brought me to Grandfather.  He is a central character in my books.  I hope to tell his story one day, but for now I write romance.  His story WILL be told, but the amount of research that I need to complete first isn't finished.  I hope to finish his story by 2016. So,I decided to start writing about all of the things that I love, combining them into one. I want to entertain my readers as they get lost in a love story. I want them to meet Grandfather and all his "grandchildren".   Grandfather needs all his grandchildren to be happy but first they have to find the "Indian" in them.  He has to pass his heritage on to the next generation and they need to be worthy.  I hope that my readers learn something, laugh and enjoy my books.
