I have been writing since I was seven years old. Every grade school reporting period my teachers suggested to my parents that I write more. One of them even said that I should write poetry! I learned all this one day about eight years ago when I was going through some old papers and found my second and third grade report cards: in my youth we didn't read what our teachers wrote to our parents. And my parents never told me what the grownups talked about. I wrote because I enjoyed it, and never knew that it was 'a calling'. I wrote letters, I journeled, I read the authors that appealed to me. As an adult I used to think that I'd like to write a book, and probably would, if only I had a subject. Then, suddenly, I had a subject and 'A Vampire in Las Vegas' was born, uh, written. It was a short story and suffered the same fate as all the rest of my non-correspondence: it went into a desk drawer. People told me I should write, so I wrote. Until one day in 2009 when someone I trusted said 'Why have you never published anything?' And so 'A Vampire in Las Vegas' has morphed into a trilogy: 'L.A. Screams' which exists in print; 'Paris Bleeds' which languishes in the cloud; 'Vegas Dies' which was almost converted into a made-for-television movie entitled 'Sin City Vampire'. And there are other manuscripts in varying stages of being: 'He Never Said My Name' is an autobiographical retrospective - my life's story told from a future POV. There's 'A Summer Away' - the condensation of eleven years of summer camp and, I suppose, a subset of HNSMN. (Spoiler alert: I enjoyed every moment of every day of those eleven summers.) There's 'Love Beneath His Fingertips' which grew out of an idea given to me by a Friend on Facebook. And there is one more, which my editor would love to see completed - a Christmas romance. Major influences? Stephen King, JK Rowling, Tolkein, Heinlein, Le Guin, Chaucer, Shakespeare; English Lit, Greek Mythology (esp. Bulfinch's Mythology). My seventh grade English teacher who finally taught me how to correctly pronounce the Greek names! Nora Roberts and her alter-ego J.D. Robb, and everyone who's ever put a book in my hand.
