My sense is what will get Emily out of her depression is a budding love affair with the man who pulled her out of her wreck.
I was thrown from my hot rod and received only stitches to my knee one month before I was paralyzed during unrelated surgery to my neck C4-C6. I lost my girl friend who was also thrown from the hot rod with me, but received only bruising and minor cuts, too. She left me for a submariner just before I went into surgery, leaving me depressed.
I returned after five weeks in the hospital, still walking but with paralyzed arms and hands, to a farmhouse with my mother, grandmother, and younger sister to assist me in a long, lonely recovery. So, my situation was different from Emily's, but similar in some ways.
One thing. If Emily could see the man below, he could see her head or face, if not her body. Unless, of course, the angle of the glass was such that a reflection or something else preventing him from seeing her.

I enjoyed Chapter 1 where you instill curiosity in the reader to stick around to find out more about the mysterious stranger.
