She has an extensive background in musicality and the written and spoken word. Mocha Sistah began singing at the early age of 8, and has performed for weddings, talent shows, and special events. As a student at Columbia College, she had the opportunity to perform in a black history program for Senator Julian Bond. Her major poetic influences are Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, and Sonia Sanchez. Her literary influences are Terry McMillan, Alice Walker, and Eric Jerome Dickey just to name a few. Her poetry has been published online at Ebonylove.net, Sisterfriends.com, Rhapsody Publishing, and The Nubian Chornicles. Her poetry has also been published by the Gramblinite and the eXpressions Journal. Her short stories and relationship articles have been published by the Nubian Chronicles and Sisterfriends.com. She currently is a contributing writer for several literary e-zines.

She has just completed her 2nd published effort, A Love Story, a compilation of contemporary african american love stories. Mocha was awarded 2nd Place in the 2003 Poet of the Year Contest sponsored by Spoken Vizions Magazine in St. Louis, MO on 11/8/03. APRIL 2004 WINNER of Disilgold's poetry contest with poem, "Heal the Land." Mocha was then honored at the Disilgold's Literary Dinner at the 2004 Harlem Book Fair in New York City (July 2004). She is the recent receipent of the Gwendolyn Brooks Award and the "Most Popular Female Poet of the Year" by Disilgold and the YOUnity Literary Guild in New York City.

She performed in St. Louis at the Genesis House Coffehouse, Legacy Books, and Eternity Cafe (August 2004).

She has appeared on ArtistFirst.com on In 2005 this author was highlighted on Power Talk FM, Hiyaah Ground (Wisconsin Public Radio), on Zane's Literary Cruise (April 05), at the Too Sexy For You Writers Conference (in Detroit, MI), and also at the Los Angeles Black Book Expo (June 2005).

Mocha recently finished work on two novels (Cause I Can and When Rainbows Ain't Enough) both slated for release in late 2005. She released, Rivers of My Life (now available at www.lulu.com) and Black Orchids (now available at www.iuniverse.com). Her poem, "Unresolved" is currently featured in "My Soul To His Spirit" a compilation of daughters thoughts about their fathers, now highlighted in the June 2005 Issue of Ebony Magazine. Her poem is located on page 85 of the collection.

Mocha released, Tears of a Woman, The Light Within (March 2006) through www.lulu.com/mochasistah. Other titles readily available : Musings of a Mocha Sistah, Volume 3 (2010) as well as new children's poetry: New and Collected Poems will be released in the Summer of 2016.
