** I earned my 2nd degree black belt (Nidan) in Kenpo karate on December 9, 1995. This rank has been valuable to me as a writer; I continue to use my 2nd degree in a literary sense. Miranda, the main character in my Just Deserts Series, is proof positive of those skills.
