After spending most of my adult life teaching and coaching, I decided to retire to Sanibel Island, Florida. Sanibel is a tropical paradise with an abundance of wildlife. As an animal lover, I became involved in volunteering for CROW, our local wildlife clinic, and became active in wildlife education for children. With four young grandchildren I decided to write some stories about Florida's wildlife. My first storybook was published in 2005. DILLO - A Baby Armadillo's Adventure on Sanibel Island, a 14 chapter, became a 2009 Eric Hoffer award-winning storybook about a baby armadillo born with a permanent smile. With the success of DILLO, I founded Jungle House Publications and published my second chapter book, Snowy Pea and the Ghost Crab. An educational and beautifully illustrated chapter book about shorebirds, Snowy Pea won a silver medal in the 2011 Florida Publishers Association President's Award competition in the category of Best Florida Children's Fiction. My next book, TROUPER - The True Adventures of a Blind Raccoon: The Beginning, is a 2012 release and the first in a series of non-fiction wildlife stories for children. It also marked the beginning of an educational wildlife program called: Trouper's Teachings. TROUPER won a gold medal in the 2012 Florida Publishers Association President's Award competition in the category of Best Children's Non-Fiction. My life is now joyfully filled with author visits to schools, libraries, and organizations. My favorite presentations are with Miss Dot Lee and Trouper, now an animal ambassador. We tell about the amazing rescue and rehabilitation of this brain injured three year old raccoon. Our fundamental message is the importance of respecting and protecting wildlife.

DILLO also made the short list for the da Vinci Eye division award.

Nominated in 2007 for the Angels of the Arts Award in the category of Literary Artist of the Year, by the Lee County, Florida Alliance for the Arts.
