Miss Dot received another phone call, this time from a friend. He had found an injured baby raccoon lying on its side in some tall grass on a golf course. He wanted Miss Dot to take care of it.
The little raccoon was only eight weeks old.
Baby raccoons are called kits. The injured kit didn't move and was bleeding from cuts on its head and nose.
[After five days of no improvement]
She looked into the carrier at the kit, and her tears dropped onto its fur.
"I'm so sorry, little one," she said. "I have done all I can for you, but you're not getting any better."
Just when she was about to give up, the baby raccoon picked up its head and yawned! It even moved its body a little bit.
