Valerie M Washington wrote her first book, Soul Passion, in the fall of 2007. In 2008, Soul Passion was nominated at the 4th. Annual African-American Literary Award Ceremony at the Alhambra Ballroom in Harlem. New York, and was placed on display at the African- American Pavilion Book Expo America at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
