When I wrote my first book, I didn't know that writing and publishing involved so many undertakings, other than writing. Marketing is a full time job and demands a lot of skills I don't possess. Yes, you can engage professional people to do it for you but that costs a lot of money. If you're a self-publisher you might need editing assistance, proof reading, help with cover picture and design. Luckily, I'm a former photographer and commercial artist, thus don't feel the need of the latter kind of assistance. I learned all of this the hard way and after publishing six books in UK and USA, I decided my dream would remain just a dream. When the last book was out of the market after ten years, I paused my publishing ambitions. But I kept writing and 2008, I sent a manuscript to Writer's Litery Agency in New York, had it accepted and nice review. That's the book I now introduce under the title Chicago Chick. But the agent needs to find a publisher and all I heard was silence. Then the#metoo movement popped up and I recalled my story had elements that could refer to that issue. I edited again, altered and - as English isn't my first language - edited once more. I publish with a print-on-demand company. In the meantime I retired and moved from Gothenburg, Sweden to a small house in the forest region of South Scandinavia. Being a member of the Swedish American Hostorical Society, seated in Chicago, I picked rural Illinois as location for my story. Certain parts of the state has strong connection to Swedish immigrants. Being retired means I own my time and can devote to favorite pastimes. Writing and music count among my pastimes along with gardening. The latter gives you a lot of exercise. Regardless of success, I will keep on writing and reading because I love it. Keep shining, GA Loren
