I grew up spending my summers on beautiful Lake Champlain. Vermont has to be the reason God gave us Christmas. I wrote about the beauty of the land and the way it calls to you. Because I could never afford to live there I looked, and I found Ela, in North Carolina. A small town nestled between Cherokee and the quaint town of Bryson Ciry. I step into the past where the pace of life was slower, and people still say hello to you, even if they don't know you. And the winters are shorter. I love it too. One of these days I'll say goodbye to the heat, hurricaines, and rudeness of strangers here in West Palm Beach. It is a beautiful place damaged by big money, lack of planning and many, many, homeless, poor people. It's only good they can't freeze to death in their tents here. Isn't that sad?. Now don't get me wrong, Florida in the winter is a wonderful thing. When the weather hovers around 77, and you can sit out on that screened in porch which overlooks your pool. It's a touch of paradise. Just don't come here in the summer, and never, never , come, in a car that does not have air conditioning. While up North people are freezing off their butts, Floridians are boating and swimming, and loving it. All it took was a hurricaine, and I want to leave. It was terrifying to say the least. And me with no shutters. Scary, really scary.
