I started writing poetry in the Third Form at The Saint Mary's Academy,(Catholic High School for boys)in Roseau, Dominica. I made contributions to the school's newspaper, The Marian Messenger. I then started to venture beyond the school magazine and contributed poems and short stories to the local weekly newspapers and the local radio station. A lot of that early exposure was through the help of Dominica's noted writer Phyllis Shand-Allfrey, who at the time was the editor of The Star newspaper. A number of my poems and short stories were published by Mrs. Allfrey. Also giving help and guidance in those early days were Marcel "D'jamala" Fountaine, a former classmate, and Dominica's noted playwright, Alwin Bully, who was my English teacher at The Sixth Form College. I come from a country rich with culture, filled with greenery and blessed by nature-influences strong enough to spur the literary minded into action. I hope I can only continue to add to what people like Jean Rhys, Phyllis Shand-Allfrey and others before me have started.    

I have published three books of poetry-
The Dawn in 1978, Words in the Quiet Moments in 1981,(both published in Dominica), and The Island Man Sings His Song published in the USA in May, 2001.In 2005 I released my first collection of short stories entitled, Mesye Kwik! KwaK! which looks at everyday life in the village of St.Joseph, Dominica, where I grew up and still call home. In August of 2011 I released Ma William and Her Circle of Friends, a fictional account of life in a Caribbean community as seen through the eyes of a shopkeeper and her trusted friends. The setting for this book is also St. Joseph.
