Information
I've loved history and travel since I was a child, so it's no surprise that my work focuses on those subjects. Even my fiction tends to be meticulously researched. I worked as an archaeologist for ten years, excavating in the U.S., Israel, Cyprus, and Bulgaria, and this experence informs a lot of my writing. I've traveled to 35 countries and lived in five, but I never tire of learning more about the world.
Accomplishments
MISSOURI: AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY (Hippocrene, 2008) was voted one of the best history books for 2008 by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
I won the 2013 Society of American Travel Writers Award for my Iraq reportage.
