Bill was in the army for over twenty years and then finally retired in 1969. After retiring he worked in the computer and communications area in civilian life; namely with companies such as Bunker Ramo Corp, Planning Research Corp, Kentron International, Datapoint Corp, University of Dayton Research Institute, and finally with the US government as an employee with the US Air Force.
