I don't want to date myself too much, but there was no TV in my house when I was growing up, and living out in the "sticks" there wasn't even much radio. Easier to fall into the book world in thiose days with almost no other media around. I remember gobbling up all the Hardy Boy books and the Oz books--later the James Bond books and soon Tolkien. As a young adult in the sixties I read a ton of Sci-Fi---Bradbury, Asimov, Leguin and the rest. Later on I found nineteenth century Brit Lit as well as American writers like Poe, Twain and Thoreau.
