I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and went off to school at Boston College, a fine Jesuit school that is close to my heart. There I discovered the thrill of academia, along with playing rugby and drinking beer. After graduation I became a bohemian, and worked in service jobs while reading and writing, the latter two being my true vocation. I love history, and have read countless biographies and books about the drama of human experience, of which there are far more than any man could ever read.
