After earning a degree in journalism, I spent decades running a video production company into the ground, adopted a baby girl from China, got married, moved to the suburbs, adopted a baby boy from Vietnam, started writing this novel, realized I didn't know what I was doing, spent nine summers taking classes at the Iowa Summer Writing Festival (and rewrote the novel every fall), and finally published it.
