C.P. Murphy was born in Catskill, New York, and raised in the nearby town of Athens. After moving to Naples, Florida, where she lived with her parents throughout her teen years, she started to think of writing as more than just an expression. Never realizing that she could make a career with a pen, she scribbled bits and pieces here and there. C.P. Murphy moved to western New York in the early 90s and is when she had her first poem published in a national anthology.
