Savannah, Georgia has the third largest St. Patrick's Day celebration and parade in America. Most people think blacks were the slaves in this area but it was the Irish. They came as endentured slaves to Savannah thus giving Savannah one of the greatest cities of Irish Heritage in the states. I should know... my children have Irish blood running on through their veins and me too. If you live in Savannah or just come for the celebration, with a million others then you have Irish in you for a day.
Mariah and I will attend the festivities this weekend.

Tis the Top O' the Marn'n and a good day to all
Tis the St. Patrick's Day greet'n for the big and the small
Tis emerald and is growing on beards and the dog
Tis fountains a flow'n and even the grog
Tis green beer and green children and pointy tall hats
Tis fur of the animals, not too many cats
Tis beads and tis music...a jig for the crowd
Tis booming that echoes with laughter that's proud
The Irish have grown with this great green day
Grumps that aren't Irish are suddenly gay
They've adopted the brogue, an "O" fore their name
Like Rowse is O'Rowse then more of the same
Tis Shaunassey... O'Scwartz and Katey O' Wurtzburg
Tis Brian O' Trier and Rosie O' Bainburge
Tis wee little ones with ears out to here...
Tis smiles with green teeth and green foaming beer
Tis mounted patrols and kilted bagpipers
Tis the lilt of a siren yelling from rafters
O'Malley...hey Shawn...Kelly and O' Doulle
Tis faint funny grins on silly old fools
Tis bands full of roar and sots with a tilt
Tis these ones...we hope...aren't wear'n the kilt
Tis green...yes tis green...tis Irelands great day
Tis Tara Feish for families...tis gallant array
Tis The Luck of the Irish when rain turns away
Tis glorious...we're Irish...at least for one day.

A far cry from Darby O'Gill and the Little People - 'For she's my dear, my darling one, my lovely and beguiling one, I love to see the smile upon, those darling Irish eyes!' So sange Sean Connery's dashing handsome character in that Disney favourite of mine.
Saint Patricks Day and Happy Birthday are synonymous in my life Belle-o-the-ball. Tis a day of transition for muaaa. A fine write!

This poem sums up Irish culture in a beautifully written nutshell! Being from an equally green land - Scotland - it reminded me of home due to our Celtic connections and age-old traditions. Should be published for Irish tourism :o) I could even hear a thick Irish accent read it aloud as I read the words.
