There it rests in the reeds
Along a quiet marsh
Darkened wood with rusted sutures
Weather worn and harsh
One lone oar lays aside
A crabtrap tossed and broken
The quiet breaks for a small sloop
Shiney, new and oaken
Between the two the memory
Lies in the older boat
For painted flakes that dot the sides
For the memories still afloat
Susan, this is full of imaginations for this reader. I'd love to know all of those memories the boats have endured...I'll bet we could write a book. Loved this style & the voice contained in your words.
Oh Susan, this is lovely and I thank you for the wonderful words you paint for me. There is somthing about abandoned boats for in their ghosts we know that somoene once loved them and the sea they sailed on dearly. Sweet.
Well done Susan but be honest. That looks like a picture taken on the gulf coast of Florida somewhere. Looks like a 30 H.P. Mercury outboard more than an oar too. hmmmm. Don't see any reeds or a marsh either. lol ;-) Good job kiddo.
This is interesting. I was on the highway a little while ago and saw a car with three teenaged girls in all their radiant youth and they appeared to be so happy, carefree, laughing and swaying to the music and then read Rowboat and it reminded me of my lost youth. Very good writing.
Wondrous & I have seen this exact scene in Aruba years ago ~love Ted

Have I missed something ? This is political? Doesn't sound that way to me, I just see the old boat as a memory promoter even as the newer, sleeker boat takes its place . . .
