Poem Artwork

Me and Miss Wilma,
Sit at the kitchen table
We peruse the a.m. news
Talkin' 'bout the war
and local pot holes
and high gas prices
and unfixed incomes

and how the children suffer. . .

We compare our families
dear spirits now ascended,
shrouded in reminiscence

Ms. Wilma gets her scrapbook,
teeming dust mites boast
sweet charities of the past. . .

80-something women folk
make the best coffee
and store bought cookies
to start my day out right
before I pass out
from planning too much. . .

Do old women from the south
treat me far better
than civilized damn yankees?

E x c e l l e n t :) And you picked the perfect photo. Only thing makes me nervous is, I'm half a damned-Yankee [unless one drop makes you a whole one?] Was born in Illinois & lived there until I was 17. Then again, I got Suhthun blood on both sides. . .and ended up settling in Carolina. And, er, ah, I'm, like, you know, white. But there's white & there's white. Right? I mean, "rat?" :) Thank you for posting your wonderful work. Pea <3

Enjoyed the read, but I will always prefer homemade cookies from any home that serves them with love. Doesn’t matter where there served, just as long as it is with love and understanding, after all Poet, this is a tiny planet we all live on… temporarily. Keep The Faith.

I suppose that depends on your definition of "civilized". (wink)

Wonderful write, Cynth'ya, reminded me of my dear old grandma, but I hate to tell ya, she was a yankee, and she gave me home-made cookies!
