Poem Artwork

I got a call. . .as I watch'd the snow fall:
it was my friend; she told me her mother was gone

and I thought as I took my morning walk, upon leaving my dentist humming Christmas songs all alone at the bus stop:

Life is not much different
than that of a dried twig,
resting from it's summer labor:
holding on to the last of its sap;
and all of nature has an appointment. . .

and I thought of Sister Lorene
who never leaves the house anymore
--since she was told she was too old
to work as an RN anymore--
she always question'd me when I call
or take her something like a casserole
of healthy goodies to wean her off
her snicker bars and orange juice habit:

Why does God let me live so long
at age 93: and I tell her. . .
because you need someone to
make you laugh, that might be, ME!

and she laughs, just like my grandmother
who can't remember much these days,
but she recalls bouncing this now-grown
baby girl on her knee. . . and after that call

I realised that my friends' grandparents
some of them

R-gone. . .and my friends' parents,
some of them

R-gone. . .and my friends' children; some of them

R-gone. . . and my
friends' pets; some of them

R-gone. . .
and my friends spouses: some of them. . .

R-gone. . . and the lands and homes and tickets stubs from shows of which we were all so fond; those performers like Richard and Luther and Ray like Abraham and Martin and John,

They 2 R-gone . . . and soon, those whom I fret to let go, will be gone. . . so I guess I'll have to say to myself:

Hey there . . .

                                long time no see.

The song Eileen is refering to is called "Let Em In" and in many ways it is like your poem, Cynth'ya. In body we depart, in spirit we ever shall remain. I have lost so many, with some it was a surprise and others it was a blessing, but all take with them a little piece of my heart, though they each have left me with a little piece of their own. One day we will go and we will leave behind many that we care so deeply for. I have to wonder if it is harder to be the one who is left behind or the one who must leave. Wonderful write!!
Take care,
Sherry

It reminds me of Paul MaCartney's song, "someones knocking, open the door and let them in" I can't remember the title. He mentions those who "R gone"...Cynth'ya this makes us recall loved ones who R gone, but also think of how quickly it can be us "gone" Superb writing!
Love,
Eileen

We are but a short time on this mortal coil Cynth'ya
If we can do someone a kindness, we should do it now !, for our paths may never cross again in this life....
