Poem Artwork

‘tis the bountiful season full of hope,
yet why is it so many can't cope?

‘tis the season of peak freshness and cheer,
yet why do some still wake and sleep in fear?

‘tis the season we sing spirit’d songs,
yet why is it some feel they don't belong?

‘tis the season of spectrums of color,
yet why is it some won’t accept others?

‘tis the season of sacrifice and prayer,
why does our world still feel such despair?

(Author's note) In an Indiana town well-known for its vehement racial history, (from a third party resource who lives in the town that inspired the above poem) I am told that there is still a law on the city records stating that black people are not to be on the street at nightfall. Amidst all the changes that have been witness, all the blood shed in freedom for others, why can't the United States be the example of unity?

Whether or not the account about dark people being inside by the time it gets dark is accurate, in any case, discoveries of this legal nature could seemingly cause sensible people in that town to wonder about the logic as to why some people choose to give up their right to exercise their voice in American Politics. (Somebody refresh my memory, is it 2006 or 1866?). Nonetheless, this is a free nation, and if a town chooses to stay in the past, those who choose not to "go with their flow" can choose to leave. The heart can only be changed by the one who hears the beat.

Without a doubt this world needs prayer, but the actions from the prayers must first be in the hearts of those who must first admit to themselves their own sins. Then those who hope to teach them a better way of living and coping must first understand that resistance to change is completely natural.

Until those two psycho-spiritual elements occur along both sides of the color line, then perhaps it's best to leave the snakes to their own nests, and be a blessing to use our God-given talents elsewhere.
(Written to encourage my friend living in a decidedly historically bigoted town in Central Indiana that just refuses to change without apology.

Having said that, wishing you all Happy Holidays, and don't forget the other 364 in the Pursuit of Happyness.

blessin's, clr

I think that some people don't believe in themselves and don't place their faith in God. Those two things can make the holidays even more miserable than their daily lives already are. There are a lot of injustices in this world, Cynth'ya, we just have to rise above them and know that we are all the children of God and accept that many still possess foolish ideas and weakness within their hearts and souls. We sages must teach with our actions and pray that the others will learn. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Take care,
Sherry

Your poem, your commentary, and your heart shine a light by which we are obligated to see and acknowledge truths many would prefer to ignore. Thank you for your refusal to exercise indifference and for the many gifts of grace, love, and wisdom that you bestow upon this world in every season.

Happy Holy Days to You and Yours,

Yes dear sister we do live in a hopelessly bipolar system.

Always in a struggle with what the machine/monster wants for us, more meds, more stuff, more money, more free time, more power, and what our Creator wants for us - HIM.

It is becoming a wasteland of homelessness and irresponsibility out there. Everyone should be given a clear revelation that Christmas without Christ is only an Xmas.

Fine juxtaposing in this write Cynth'ya ...

Cynth'ya, you made some really good points here, and the things that happen are not right. I'm guessing it is fear that causes us to pass unfair laws and to make judgments like that.

The only way to make fear go away is to get to know each other better. Once we open our hearts to do that, we forget the differences between us. We actually find that there is good and bad in all people, and we are very much alike. When I taught, all the children became the same. Skin color was no different than hair or eye color. However, when I was young I used to fear people who sounded different, looked different, were crippled, blind or couldn't hear. I avoided them. Then, one day I met a man who couldn't hear. I got to know him. We eventually married, and I made sure that he got his hearing checked. He ended up getting hearing aides so he could hear.

I've stopped fearing those who are different or handicapped. We are all human beings, and we all have feelings.

A little fear is okay, though, it is what keeps us safe from harm.

We should get to know others and give them a chance to get to know us. That way they and we will know whether there is any need to fear.

I decided to stop by and read your poem because it started with 'tis just like mine. Now I'm glad that I did. It is an excellent poem.

Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.

My first read of your body of works. I believe in unity and truth; if that falls on deaf ears, then I can only wish them well in their knotted world. Your poem rings true and read outloud as much as possible; perhaps then, people would start to "think."
