Fifty years later, things are still the same.

Poem Artwork

old cankers of hate
ancient leeches of shame
rotten darkness of ages
hushes ancestors' names

Ugglee festers and foams
in the minds of our youth
who think themselves lesser
not knowing the truth

so what's your solution
friend, how can we heal
the young souls of royal offspring
who fear what they feel?

You ask a difficult question, Cynth'ya, but we can make a difference. Good points you raise; as always, an excellent, thought provoker from your gifted mind! BRAVA, dear heart, BRAVA~

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :(

You ask a hard question, (((Cynth'ya))). Too much uggleeness in the world, but it is time to stand up and say, 'No more,' and DO something about it. Change begins with me. With each one of us. Boldly penned, well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

I like the way you challenge the reader to effect his/her own positive change to an age-old situation.

A powerfully absorbing question cynth'ya, using an equally intriguing metaphor, which desperately needs the Holy Spirits indwelling influence to accurately answer. It truly is a personal journey that requires personal relationship (not intellectual relationship) as the map to navigate by.

Far too much 'ugglee'ness in the world, but talent and dedication such as yours -- and wonderfully creative and expressive and important works such as this -- raise my spirits every time. I feel sad and angry and repulsed by the hatred and prejudice and inexcusable ignorance behind much of it, yet inspired at the same time.

When I read the poem initially I was totally lost, but then I saw the video and the whole thing clicked. How sad, and shocking, it was. Powerful statement about self esteem, I would say its prompted by the media.
This brought to mind my own daughter as a toddler. I am hispanic, with an olive complexion. My daughter for yrs had blonde hair, she is blue eyed. When she was a baby I used to try to buy her dolls with her coloring, and she never wanted them. She always choose the brunette dolls. My mom told me she was associating the darker dolls with me.....with love.

I was so pleased by that. Its a mom thing lol. Then when she got a bit older(4) she told me, she wanted to dye her hair black like mine. She wanted to look like mommy.

Then we got cable. Saw old episodes of the Smurfs......then she wanted blue hair, so she could look Smurfy lol

Kids are easily influenced

This is intriguing... "ugglee" flows ~ making waves by the shores of life ~ to break into foams of awareness.

Cynth'ya, this is a powerful piece, and brilliant when combined with the video. I hope everyone sees the video and feels the shock.

Great metaphors--as are one of your trademarks. Excellent play on words and you tell such a story in short space. I enjoyed this read.
Thanks,
George
