You are so right, we had too much respect for our father's when we were kids to sass him, to us he was our hero, a veteren who had fought the Germans and lived to tell about it, a farmer who knew the land, a boxer who would never back down, yea to us he was a hero.

My dad was a truck driver and could lift both me and my twin brother off the ground in each hand. I never challenged him. Mom always disciplined us, and she called on Dad for punishment. One time after I foolishly shot my sister with a BB gun filled with little candy dots, the copy at the top of the stairs and with one swing knocked me to the bottom. I wasn't hurt, but I got the point. From what you wrote, so too did you.

There's nothing wrong with good firm discipline. Many young people in today's world seem to not know the meaning of 'respect your elders'. Has that lesson been lost somewhere along the way?

My kids are 6 footers and in their 30's and 40's and I'd still beat their asses if there's and sass and they know it. Great write for those who need it Richard.
