The heart needs a good home, or it will end up in Rome.

Poem Artwork

I look into the mirror
kiss this face
I use to feel inferior.
Beat down by an
unforgiving society,
where race seems
to be a big propriety.
Black boy your ancestors
were slaves,
you're a chip off the
old ancester tree,
you don't deserve to
be free.

You can't write a book,
your best talents
be my kitchen cook.
Get away from that
expensive airplane,
you must be insane,
if your think you'll
get a chance to fly,
smaller brain is why.
Tuskegee Airmen,
black fighter pilots,
world war two,
professionally flew.
Naysay liar,
the black man was
a great flyer.

I kiss this black hand,
look out and love
my fellow man.
I can't hate you
because of
your white face,
my heart would be
in the wrong place.
With a displaced heart
a man is defeated
even before he start.

Always take pride in who you are, no matter our skin color; never play into the hands of the ignorant. I pray that intolerance and racism be eradicated before I die...now I wonder...but I still pray and try to live longer.

a difficult read because, as a white person, i somehow feel i must apologize, as a black man, i am sure that you have to deal with race issues that we have no clue about--i wish it wasn't so, but i know it is--we must continue, all of us, to be the very best that we, as members of the race, can be.

Let's continue to hope, Gem, that the world's is changing
for the best. Of course, that hope has been hanging around
for a long time, but now--well, hell, the next president of
these United States may well be a black man. We can hope.

You are in a blue mood, dear heart.
Don't let the bastards get you down. The best revenge is success.

Love,
Elizabeth

The Heart's Way by Rebecca McKeehan

Love is universal and not limited to the most perfect among us. In this collection of romantic short stories and poetry, love comes to those who are decidedly imperfect, who possess very real human flaws, scars, and challenges. Awaiting us as we are.
