Reflective on the inviting nature of balckberries picked and eaten in full ripeness !

Poem Artwork

Breakfast in Blarney

Rain-washed black fruit
peeps out under the dark oaks,
we jog through Sunday morning exercise,
red pendant fuchsia bob
on white faces untanned by summer sun,
brown-washed clover underfoot
grazes our marching feet.
We pound the pulse of our hearts into exercised circulation,
while wild cornflower be-spectacle the eye
with summer-worn blue-blur sprays,
as we finally succumb to breakfast-pick
of shiny autumnal black fruit jewels.
Mouths fill with dark purple berry-taste,
semi-permanent tongue stain and lip colour,
as wild juice and seed enter our system.
The earthy fruit refreshes and replenishes
with nature's vitality and summer's bounty.
