THE AFTERBIRTH
by Judy Joy Jones
Last night i painted
and destroyed
my apartment
Carpet stained
turpentine aroma
so strong
my head split in two
Hands feet and hair
multicolored spectacle
Even destroyed
two other paintings
in the process
This birth
was wild violent
and impossible
but born it was
Didnt give a damned
for cleanliness
security deposits
or my health
No this baby
came thru me
powered by
the spirit world
And like
the worst hurricane
turned all around it
into the stoneage
Im looking
at this painting
hanging on my wall
smooth and beautiful
smiling back at me
I gave it life
and it took mine
