Poem Artwork

In an Aussie Country.....Garden!

Amid shael and clay, heat, flies, frogs
little or no soil of fertile substance

Unshaded, though planned
a vision in mind to unfold

A small patch of paradise was born!

Of native trees and shrubs
naught else grows here

Lest it be hardy drought resistant
impartial to daily water

Slowly it took form!

You'll not see gardenia's
marigolds or anemomies

Camelia's or lotus blossom
snapdragons, hollyhocks or lupins

We use what we can in this dry arid land!

Oh but plenty diosma's golden or green
seaside, marguertie daisies make a scene

No soft lush green grass it's bark everwhere
soft white pebbles n fairy lights for flair

Mulberry makes her stance!

Wild rocks draped with convolulus falling
about the ground see those crickets calling

Elders dance in the hot summer winds
to the tune of the roses who endure dry limbs

Feature it all with a flowing fish pond!

You'll not find the epitome of an English garden
Just the imaginative odours of Aussie flora.....

Singing I beg you're pardon!

This is glorious..dang ..I miss my Aussie..I'll be visiting soon..last time was in 2002..I miss Melbourne..yeah even the lousy weather..lol!

I have been feeling very homesick even though I live in a beautiful sea-side resort called Opatija situated on the north coast of Croatia..I still miss Aussie and my heart will always yearn to be there..
Thankyou Ch'erie..:)

That is as it should be. A true garden would utilize plants and trees that are indigenous to on's country. Victor

There you go again, rubbing it in that you live in an arid land, just as summer approaches, again and we have to survive winter...lol, ed

But more to the point, this is a beautiful write, I found myself imagining just what it looks like...

Fantastic pic and poem! I love the variety in this wondrous earth Creator gave to us. How boring it would be if all the same. I love the Aussie garden you describe as much as any other. To me all are unique and to be appreciated. I can see that you do Ch'erie hence the lovely poem!

Awesome picture...that truly pulled the heartstrings....it reminded me of my grandmothers garden...she did not believe in lawns as such...but just rich red soil and her love she had the most beautiful garden!!

Thanks for sharing...mine turned into a swamp after all the rain we had this far!!

Lovely poem, lovely garden. A garden is, or should be, scored for what the hard labors have wrought, not the outward appearance, although they should be as beauutiful as possible. Here, from what I can see, and from your descriptive words, is a unique and beautiful spot on Gods not always green earth. Brava!
