Overdue update
Corey received another Cadaver Donor Transplant on the 05/01/2020
It was well organised, and the operation to remove the old Dead Kidney, Insert and plumb in the New one, no mean feat, but it began working immediately. Dialysis was needed for a couple of sessions, then the Fistula left, not to be used again. Back to the Immune suppressant drugs to trick the body into thinking it belonged there. Back to endless blood tests and Consultant visits for a whole year. Now whittled down to every three months. He's living a fairly normal life now, for as long as the kidney donated lasts. Modern medicine is a marvel indeed, though the drawbacks are not to be forgotten. Someone died in order that he might live, and for that we never forget the sacrifice, from someone's Son or Daughter. Every day the methods are improving, more are receiving as people actually get sicker, in this day and age of fast food, and drinking. For now we live by Gods good grace, and we are thankful. Blessings to all those experiencing the same future.

Corey's fight for life is inspiring. My younger twin brothers were also born a month premature, but have experienced no aftereffects and are healthier than my twin brother and I, largely because they didn't have the childhood diseases that we had 16 years earlier.

So delightful to remember that from your childhood and write it into a poem. I had to smile at the ingenuity of your father to figure out how to trap that bumblebee in your mind. and how beautifully you told us what happened in your poem.
You reminded me of the time my partner, Beh, and I visited our parents at their northwoods cottage on a lake. Fortunately, they had a spare bedroom that normally wasn't used for us to sleep in. But soon after we went to bed, I felt something crawling on my neck and it stung me! can't swat anything, least of all something on the back of my neck…
I turned sharply and yelled "Beh! Beh!" To tell her to swat the bee for me she woke up but was confused about what I was asking when I realized that the bee was no longer moving that I had killed by rolling on it. My father came to the room hearing all of my calls and the confusion. We turned on the light and discovered that it was a hornet. And dad killed a couple more in the room. In spite of that, we slept. In the morning, dad discovered a hornet's nest had formed just outside the unused bedroom. So it wasn't bees at all.

Reading through this and aside from enjoying the flow, meter and poetic allegory hidden within it, I am instantly reminded of poor, brave Ukraine, with its history of being sought after and fought over by both the East and the West for its rich fields of wonderful, golden grain and agricultural bounty. I have no doubt that there are many others in that nation who also revel in the splendid perfection of nature that those vast grasslands of waving grain so perfectly appear to be to us. They also, I am certain, prefer 'the real' to the brutal politics of belligerent national coveting that drive so much of all human strife.
As the dawn struggles to rise above the chill, bitter fog that smothers us here at this moment, I am grateful for the surge of warmth and renewed optimism that your thoughts here have imparted in the midst of our winter of social discontent! Wonderful! Thank you.

This is a skillfully conceived and delightfully apt piece, Ch'eri, and a nice 'opener' to have you back amongst us, again. Your subject is one that many of us can readily fathom and appreciate, especially those with more years on the life-odometer than others. The symbolism is deft, the length just right and the analogues chosen quite perfect, in my opinion. On a parallel (if only indirectly related) note, I started off my life with a small red Honda motorbike, that I traded successively for larger machines as the decades progressed. Today, although old enough to know better than to trust my life to others (dipsh*ts) who carelessly drive their impervious armoured tanks in the freeway high-speed lanes, I still keep a beast in the garage (although not a Harley, but a zero-to-60-in 2.7 seconds Japanese kamikaze rocket) today, next to more pedestrian bicycles. The figurative transition through life, from immature youth to doleful seniority, is well portrayed in 'Red Roar'! It's an excellent way of 'reinserting' your presence here, in the Author's Den Community. Good on ya, Sheleagh!

Powerful metaphors in this, and I can feel the speaker's frustration. The "letting go" process is a difficult one, and without any will and determination, the mistress can and will stay to destroy one's family. Some addiction are out of control, but with will power to let go, then one can be saved.

No, Sadly this is how it all ended up In NZ for me, this is no fictional write! Once full of happiness and expectation for a new beginning and a new future in my homeland, only to find the Bottle took top shelf, literally, and from the get go, though it was hidden from me to start, slowly found it's way into the open, as did all the indignities that accompany it's vile invasive, possession of the captive :/ and those who tried to live with and love that captive!

I had had drinkers in my family and I know first hand what it can do. My Mama was killed by a drunk driver as she was crossing the road after work one Oct. night. There is no alcohol in my home and never will be.

My twin brother used to run in ralleys. I am editing his autobiography right now and hope to read about them. I'm a top-gear man myself, having once owned a big block Oldsmobile Toronado like the ones the Unsers drove to win the Pike's Peak Hill Climb. My goodness, how this builds from those soft, misty pellets to the firey fume and brimstone-spit of anguish at the end, Ch'erie! Powerful indeed and whether doused by watery torrents or left to burn, the smoke will still smoulder in that poor, saturated heart. Great analogy and descriptions.
