BRICKED UP DREAMS

Old brick squared on mortored rise

Concrete sidewalks range the sky

Solid, straight.........and cornered, flush

As a life........alone......untouched

Thousands pass......cane gripping blind

Past the wall.....of dreams.....confined

Doors unlocked........yet rusted shut

Footsteps echo...........phantom's strut

Empty floors raise empty rooms

Elevators thru the moon

Hallways traffic deadened lanes

Courtyard welcome......ghostly feined

Not a flicker....nor a light

To spill the ink of lonely night

For what once was......now brick encased

By fright of life......remains a trace

Pax

Fine write, Anita! We shut our shutters against the light, for fear of the unknown. Still, the light finds its way through the cracks as if to tease us awake. Those who are wise will rub their eyes...

Brilliant write. Metaphorically powerful and emotionally gripping. A beautiful double commentary on the sad blight created by the abandonment of both physical and inner structures. Particularly enjoyed the blend of concrete and surrealistic imagery.

Look up,
there is no ceiling
and the walls
have lost their meaning
when we give our dreams
wings to fly.

Yet dream has this power, subtle but intense, of seeping through almost invisible cracks on the wall... and ultimately, flowing out, and then giving the landscape a marvelous twist... :0)
Beautifully written, as always, Anita.

That's what happens. Seems like this is true for life too. As we get older, perhaps bolder, others try to board us up too. Excellent poem Anita. Your writing is always top-notch. ~ Sara

There is a lot of sadness and emptiness in this write, Anita. It reminds me of that lady skeleton that is sitting on the bench still in her nice dress, purse at her side with the words beneath it saying "Waiting for Mr. Right." I like the way you used the solidness and lightlessness of a brick tomb, it really made your verses slam my senses.
Take care,
Sherry

I find New York city, waaay to over bearing. I like our old york..

Never seen such massive buildings, and I sure don't like them.
The lady with the base ball bat, in the hudson is about max height.

Your sign reminds me of one we have outside the gents in canterbury. -NO BALL GAMES- George Michael never goes there..

Lady A,

A claustrophobic feel to this one--vividly captured, powerfully imaged and expressed. BRAVA!
