SILVERSMITHING

Earth's elements and the artists hands are joined
Along with the soul's vision
To create adornment
That lasts
Thousands of years

A stillness of form
Created through directed force
The saw, hammer, anvil and torch
Used with violent dexterity
All energy focused on the metal

The mental
and
The physical

Sawing the silver sheets into shapes
Torching the metal, to soften the molecules
Hammering the softened metal, into form
Over the anvil
Then back to the torch, for solder

After the assault.......
Hours of polishing
Different grades and compounds
Bringing gradual shades of white luster to the surface

The results?
A piece of jewelry
A form
Strong enough to withstand beatings and fire
And maintain is design
With silent dignity
Locked in a jewelry box
