Rose

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

A poem about how the rose and mankind have similarities in that each has its own means of protection and beauty.

Sunday, March 11, 2007

Poem Artwork

The rose, a simple flower
Whose thorns protect its worth
From every springtime shower
Falling upon the earth
Its spirit is immobile
Its soul serves to attract
Its beauty remains noble
While its heart leaves an impact.

From the first hint of sunrise
To the last glimpse of night
The rose, more than we realize
Remains a cherished sight
Each petal reveals brilliance
Its stem displays resolve
Each root stands for resilience
Proving it has evolved.

Each man, a simple flower
Whose thorns protect his worth
From greed, control, and power
Falling upon the earth
His spirit is vivacious
His soul thrives as he chose
His beauty is quite gracious
While his heart is like the rose.

From rose to man--sweet. I remember a hardy, velvet-petalled beauty I used to grow, that smelled so sweet.

And the wild ones in West Virginia that lined the roads and scratched my arms raw as I freed them of weeds and poison ivy at the entrance to our park.
