Before I Go

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

Since the holiday weekend is about over and many of us will be leaving our loved ones and heading back to the grind known as work, I thought I would share this poem. Work can separate, but love remains.

Before I go, please let me say
I love you and wish I could stay
In little time, I’m sure I’ll learn
To count the hours ‘til I return
Our lives, connected at the heart
Were never meant to be apart
Life marches on and work does too
But, one day, I’ll take care of you.

I see a time, years down the road
When you will have the love you’re owed
With thinning hair of white or gray
On the porch swing, our hearts will sway
You’ll hold the door; I’ll hold your hand
And life will be the way we planned
Two souls in love at dawn and eve
Without the need to ever leave.

Right now, I must head on my own
And let the future set the tone
Never have doubt, you’re on my mind
You are the best friend I could find
You are my life, my soul, my breath
I will love you, until my death
But, for today, I’ll say goodbye
I’ll see you when the moon is high.

Goodbyes can be so very heartbreaking but sometimes liberating in a way, it gives the heart time to evaluate, appreciate and get a sense of taking stock of what a great thing that love is. Excellant write Jill.

I agree with ALL the previous reviews.
Saying 'goodbye' to a loved one is never easy. Fortunately, knowing that soon we'll meet again transcends the sadness that we feel as we hug and say 'goodbye.'

"Before I Go" - a sensitive and loving expression. Thank you,

Kathy

Jill, every poem of yours is beautiful!!! It's hard to say goodbye to a loved one because we never know what the outcome will be when we next see them. Your writings are like treasures to keep forever.
