Lost Child in the Rain

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

This morning, I looked down my driveway to discover that my 9 1/2 year old cat, Taz, had been hit by a car and was gone. I share this poem in his memory.

Like a small child who is lost in the rain
My heart feels the weight of sadness and pain
An old friend has died; my soul feels the grief
Although, I am sure he has found relief
I know I must find a way to be strong
Grateful for the fact he did not suffer long
But, I was not ready to utter goodbye
The moment his spirit took to the blue sky.

My heart is now hollow, as the teardrops fall
For the friend who’d stood beside me, through it all
Together, we'd traveled; he was there through strife
True friends we had been for nine years of my life
My soul is in mourning, unready to mend
Because a bright era has now reached its end
Yet, while I am saddened, I can find some peace
In knowing God chose to make his hardships cease.

Like a small child who cannot comprehend
I struggle to deal with the loss of my friend
Time repairs all wounds, so I will carry on
Although, a dear part of my past is now gone
I know that my friend is in a better place
Surrounded by angels and God’s loving grace
In this, I’ll find comfort as each hour leaves
But, for now, I’ll pause, while my heart sorely grieves.

A loving tribute that will help you heal, too.

I am so sorry Jill. Losing a beloved pet in such a tragic way is horrible. You probably already know how many cats we have and losing anyone of them is unthinkable, so I feel for you.

God bless, *Glen*

My sorrowed heart goes out to you Jill, at the loss of your beloved pet, I too grieve today for just yesterday morning I lost one of my cousins who I had only recently became reacquainted with and now he is gone. Life is for the living though so all we can do is cherish their memories.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Pets are not animals, they are family. I understand the sadness you feel. If you need anything, let me know...

Tears borne from loss are exquisitely felt in each line of this poem.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :( *tears*

Pets like people have a special spot in our heart. Their loss fills one with sadness and the void is just as hard to fill.

I'm sorry Taz is gone and for your grief.

Blessings.

I am soooooo sorry, Jill, losing a pet cuts as deep as losing any other family member and often deeper than some people in our lives. Having lost my dear "girlfriend:, Shrubs, who had spent 20 years with me, earlier this year, I understand the depth of your grief. Tears still flow when I think of her, so don't be surprised if your grieving continues for a long while. Never let anyone tell you that he was "just a cat;" my cats have been better companions and friends to me than almost anyone else in my life. My most sincere sympathies, Jill, I know that these are very difficult times for you and I will keep you in my prayers.
Take care,
Sherry

So sorry to hear that Jill. Having lost a dog and a cat last year I understand what you feel like right now. I'll pray for you. Very well written tribute to Taz also.

OH NO NO NO, I understand your pain of losing a beloved pet prematurely. Yet again you write with dignity and compassion, both of which are your hallmark.... And the love you radiate to all....
