Poetic Home for Rent (Challenge)

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

This poem was inspired by a writing contest in a back issue of magazine that I recently read. Though not eligible, I decided to write a poem anyhow. The photo given for the contest was a sign that said "Poetic Home for Rent."

My question/challenge to all of you is that if you were to "rent" your poetic home to someone else, what would your listing say? I rhymed mine, but if you take this challenge, feel free to use whatever form and length that makes you comfortable. Please drop me a note to let me know if you've answered the challenge!

Poem Artwork

I’ve a poetic home for rent
Its walls are made of marrow
Through its broad doors, so many went
Down pathways, short and narrow
Its cozy nature keeps me sound
Through nights I spend awake –
This place, the most unique I’ve found
Needs love, far from heartache.

Soft rhyming words comprise its eaves
Good flow forms its foundation
The stanzas sway like rustling leaves
Nature’s standing ovation
Each poem, a window to the soul
That oft held each verse near
And yet, right now, it is not whole
This “home” needs someone dear.

I’ve a poetic home for rent
For those who choose to share
The wondrous times I've often spent
In my swivel back chair
This place has been my “Home Sweet Home”
Soon, it may be once more
In its heart, please feel free to roam
With the lines I adore.

This is a sweet and heartwarming portrayal of your poetic soul. I love best the line:
"Its cozy nature keeps me sound through nights I spend awake"
I know the feeling well!
I made an attempt to take your challenge; it turned out a little different than I expected. You will be able to spot it in spite of my rebellion.

Love 'n' Hugs,
Connie

A poetic home for rent? that is a beautiful new idea, and after reading my brother's Ed answer to your challenge, who said that we others can't thrwo our hat in the ring?
...and of course, your poetic home is the oly one that as the right to call itself "Home Sweet Home", sweet and tender.
