Beauty of Friendship

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

I needed to write again (That is what my Dad would have wanted), but I knew inspiration was going to be hard to find, this week. I did not count on the huge outpouring of support from friends, neighbors, strangers, and the countless people at the Den who took the time to be there for me.

Thanks for the support, the prayers, the strength and, yes, the inspiration. The road to getting through the grief is going to be a long and slow one, but I'll be okay. This one's for you!

Poem Artwork

The beauty of friendship resides in the soul
Of anyone willing to give
Each soothing embrace mends a heart, less than whole
And fills the weak with strength to live
Through times of great sadness, friendship offers hope
And promises brighter tomorrows
To those who may be far less likely to cope
While struggling with many sorrows.

The beauty of friendship knows not of the past
The present is all that is seen
A friend treats each hour, as if it is the last
No matter how long it has been
With belief and guidance, each heart is pure gold
Spreading glory ‘cross every mile
Indeed, a rare treasure the world shall behold
True friendship comforts with a smile.

The beauty of friendship is a priceless gift
Worth much more than dollars and cents
It is always there when spirits need a lift
When nothing in the world makes sense
Through times of great hardship; of turmoil and loss
On one thing, I’ll always depend
No matter the anguish, the toll or the cost
Love thrives in the heart of a friend.

Truth spoken in your lovely words.

You are right... your father would have wanted you to continue to write. There is something especially cathartic about sharing our emotions and memories of loved ones... I look forward to learning more about your father as you share your thoughts of him as your heart heals from his loss.

You give out friendship thus you can have returned friendship. A friend is someone who stands by you always, and I want to be that kind of friend for you too. Losing someone is always hard to bear but time heals slowly, mighty slowly but we still have to go on and friends do help along with the process. Grieve all you want to and take all the time you want to. Let noone tell you otherwise.

"Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up."

Very beautifully said Jill. Seems your inspiration may have been lost but you did a great job in finding it. I feel your sorrow and join you in your loss. But remember, it is for ourselves that we grieve. For those who have left us have gone home to a far better place than this. Look forward to the day when you will once again be reunited. God bless you my friend.

Grief has to have its day but be assured it lessens as time goes by but the love of the one lost never wains.
