Twenty-Eight Years

by Jill Eisnaugle — Read all 611 poems by Jill Eisnaugle

As those of you who have followed my work for a long time know, I write a tribute to my November 12th birthday, every year.

While I am optimistic about the future, this year's tribute, given the difficult year I've had (Losing my Dad, Hurricane Ike, and more), is more of a prayer for better times to come than the reflection upon my foregone years that I usually share. Regardless, I hope you enjoy it.

Poem Artwork

So soon, the morning sun will rise;
I pray with blessings ‘fore my eyes,
Much better tidings seized by fate,
Come the day I turn twenty-eight.
Will life’s dark shadow finally fade,
Bringing a gift for which I’ve prayed,
A house; a loving home, restored,
From hassle, a welcomed reward?

Come twenty-eight, I pray I’ll find,
A life that has been redefined.
Each day, a legacy I’ve wrought,
Forged by the many dreams I’ve sought.
Some dreams have come, others have passed;
Will others find me at long last?
The answer may rest on the breeze,
If I greet twenty-eight with ease.

Twenty-eight years removed from birth,
As the sun rises o’er the earth.
What will I find, what will I see;
What pathway lies ahead of me?
This much I know, so soon I’ll learn,
If the tidings for which I yearn,
Are destined to be mine to hold,
Or grace the pages still untold.

Wow -- that "hole" hurts.
Nicely done poem, though. It is basically grace and guts (and faith) that gets us through. Of course, a little love and comfort helps, too.
Wishing you well, and a speedy "recovery."

Each year brings its challenges. At least there is no hole in your heart. Just learned that my mother will have a quad bypass next week. Do hope it gives her a few more years.

What a hole! And what a view! As Karen (below) said, it could have been MUCH worse. So you've a temporary skylight: enjoy the Sun (Son?) while you can. :) Twenty eight years. My. You young pup! Will be 50 next year. Feeling it, too. Happy birthday (early), may this year be much kinder: know what you've gone through. My prayer is that yours be answered above what you imagined. :) Well done!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Wow, that piccy is amazing! Just be glad that you didn't lose your entire house to (Y)Ike! Houses can be fixed; human lives cannot. You are indeed blessed; you're still around (thank goodness)! I pray nothing but better times ahead for you and your loved ones!

Wonderful prayer; very well written, Jill!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Tx., Karen Lynn. :D
