I think we are like that one described in those last three lines. In the last decade we have peeled back more understanding of the world and universe we live in, than we did in all of history before. The question always remains, especially now, will we find out enough about what we don't know this century to stop some very serious trends that will eliminate us all if we are not very careful? For we could be standing in a mountain stream that is too toxic to drink.
I believe Dorothy, in "The Wizard of Oz" was thinking along the same line when she said, “If I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own back yard. Because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with.” You have brought this thought across beautifully!
