A man should not retire

And hide himself, as well as

Push forward and show off;

He should be like a solid tree

Which stands in the middle

Of the rough ground.

Where these three conditions

Are fulfilled, he will reach

The height of his awareness.

When people fear the dangers

Of the mountain pathways,

If one man in ten be fallen off,

Then others warn one another

That they must not go out

On a climb without a number

Of ropes and retainers --

Is it not a mark of wit to do so?

But there are dangers which

Men incur on their beds

And in eating and drinking;

And when no warning

Is given against them --

Is it not a mark of error

And gross negligence?

Truly, a peaceful environment

Is made up of more nuisance. . .
