When we look at things,
As they differ, we see them
To be different, as for instance,
Heaven and Earth, fire and water,
Male and female, elder and younger.
When we look at them,
As they agree, we see them
All to be a unity.
We look at the unity
And do not perceive where
They have suffered differences;
We take no true knowledge
Of the things for which
Our ears and eyes are
The appropriate organs, but
Our minds delight in the harmony
Of all their excellent qualities.
The changes and
Transformations of things
Are only the developments
Prescribed for them
By scholars and scientists,
And we, poets and writers,
Keep fast hold
Of the Author of them.
