Entwined

I belong to an organization in Houston called WIVLA--Women in Visual and Literary Arts. Every other year, the organizations puts an anthology together in which an artist and a writer collaborate on a work of art and a piece of writing that mesh with a given theme. Collaborators discuss the theme and what they want to present. Two years ago, the theme was Entwined. Marie Casamayor and Deborah K Frontiera decided to work with plants and how the parts of them work together and are entwined. Deborah wrote a "Haiku House" of five poems regarding parts of the plant. She shaped the poems into a diamond shape. Marie turned a square canvas do do the same. Here is the result. Check out Marie's art on Instagram: .casamayorart

Entwined Haiku House

We are all entwined

Twisting branches, curling vine

Connected to it

Branches bring water Leaves take sun and air,

And sugar all around as Make food for all the living

Trees’ interstate roads Beings on this earth

Entangled, knotted

Interwoven, united,

And bound together

Roots talk to fungus

Warn other trees of danger

Nature’s news network

Cool and scientifically correct. The wonder of nature never ceases to amaze.
