Art is art, and its value should be intrinsically not be determined by the gender of the artist. But I believe you're right, the image of the paint splattered man in the studio, or musclebound man carving marble, is the image of all of the highest-paid artists out there, and they tend to be all men, not women.

I bought my first original oils from a woman artist who won the local awards for her work. Since then, I have bought the art, and not the artist, from both men and women, regardless of price.

Your work is unique and I'm glad that you were able to sell it through Craigslist.
